- About the Founder – Maria Carmen Barrera
Bcityng was founded in 2020 by Maria Carmen Barrera, a licensed guide passionate about Barcelona, Catalonia, and cultural heritage. Born in the historic village of Cardona in 1988, Maria Carmen grew up surrounded by nature, medieval architecture, and Catalan traditions, inspiring her lifelong love for arts, history, and culture.
She began her tourism career in Barcelona, gaining experience in various cultural and visitor services roles before completing an Erasmus program in Tuscany, Italy. She is officially accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the regional government authority, to guide in Catalan, Spanish, English, and French.
Maria Carmen studied Occupational Therapy for three years, a background that deeply informs her expertise in accessible tourism. She specializes in wheelchair-friendly and adapted tours, ensuring every traveller, including those with limited mobility, enjoys seamless, comfortable, and memorable experiences in Barcelona and across Catalonia.
During the COVID period, she expanded her knowledge with professional sommellerie courses, developing an extensive understanding of Catalan wines, DO regions, and boutique wineries. This allows her to offer exclusive wine tours and tasting experiences that combine culture, gastronomy, and luxury for wine enthusiasts and food lovers.
With extensive experience in tourism, Maria Carmen understands travellers’ needs and delivers personalized, accessible, and culturally immersive tours.
Before Bcityng, she ran Cool Tours Barcelona (2014–2020), offering walking tours, bike tours, food and wine experiences, and chauffeured trips throughout Barcelona and Catalonia.
Following the challenges of 2020, she recognized the need for a new, refined brand focused on luxury, accessible, and immersive guided tours. Bcityng was born, committed to providing exceptional, fully adapted experiences for all travellers.
